Social Justice Camp DC is a free two-day event on MLK Weekend gathering individuals interested in pursuing social justice in Washington, DC through art, technology & collaboration.

Friday Ignite Sessions

Using a structured presentation format (speakers get 5 minutes and up to 20 slides), presenters will showcase innovative, DC-based projects and topics in the social justice space.
Ignite Talk Proposals: If you are passionate about a DC social justice issue and would like to give an Ignite Talk Friday night, please tell us who you are and what you'd talk about here.
Saturday Camp:

A participant driven conference, Saturday's Camp will have a format inspired by unconference/barcamp style events. Camp attendees will help create the conference agenda and drive discussion throughout the day.

Goals: The main goals of Social Justice Camp DC are:
1) To gather people across sectors and professions to explore social justice issues in Washington, DC
2) To build networked communities interested in addressing specific challenges affecting DC’s underserved populations
3) To not only celebrate the achievements of MLK and the Civil Rights Movement, but also to channel our creative energies into projects that build on them
Who: Who should come to Social Justice Camp DC:
- Activists and artists who want to learn more about using social media in the pursuit of social justice.
- Employees and volunteers with non-profits, public organizations, libraries, schools and government who want to learn from each other about problem solving the obstacles to social justice in the DC community.
- Visionaries and enthusiasts in marketing, business development, and the legal field who want to share their experiences and expertise
- Anyone who is passionate about social justice and has a personal interest in volunteering time and resources to changing the world through collaboration, technology and creativity.
Format: Inspired by unconferences such as Public Media Camp and Congress Camp, Social Justice Camp DC will give all participants an opportunity to help plan and run the event.
- Participants will be invited to brainstorm sessions as part of the pre-conference process on the website
- The session agenda will be left open for attendees to create their own sessions on the morning of the event
- All presentations and sessions at Social Justice Camp DC are on the record
- Blogging, podcasting, tweeting, etc are all strongly encouraged, in conjunction with the tag #sojuca
- Any presentation materials shared at the event must be released under a Creative Commons Attribution, Noncommercial Sharealike license so they can be used by other campers
Attending: Social Justice Camp DC is free to attendees. The cost of the event will be covered by event sponsors. This is not an opportunity to focus on selling your product or service, but to participate as a valued member of the community.
